Dell IoT Surveillance
Client: Dell
Agency: Mahalo Digital
Role: Motion Designer (2D), Character Animator(2D), Video Editor
Overview
Mahalo Digital engaged me to produce a 2D animation explaining how Dell’s IoT platform unifies disparate surveillance devices into a single, intelligent ecosystem. Mahalo supplied the script and high-level art direction; from there, I handled music selection, illustrated supplemental assets, and executed all animation, choreography, character work, and motion-driven transitions needed to bring the story to life.
Challenges
• Communicate a fairly technical system in a clear, accessible way
• Maintain Dell’s brand feel while expanding the visual language with new assets
• Integrate basic character animation with a primarily flat-2D, tech-forward style
• Keep visual tempo snappy and engaging within corporate brand constraints
• Deliver a polished explainer video using limited, provided assets
Execution
With a working script, the first priority was curating footage that met the CEO’s sensitivity to anything that looked like typical stock video. I sourced a library of cinematic shots with strong composition, emotional resonance, and a visual continuity that supported the story.
A key creative requirement was the data-texture motif, a visual layer meant to imply that the people in the film “inhabit the supply chain” and that Craft’s technology surrounds and enables this. I developed a subtle, motion-driven texture system that integrated into select shots, becoming a part of the environment without being too distracting. It serves as a connective tissue: a visual presence of Craft that threads through the entire film.
Editorial pacing shaped the narrative backbone: rhythm, contrast, and transitions were used to evoke emotion. Once the structure was solid, I designed the supporting motion graphics and VFX needed to unify the varied imagery - typography, overlays, transitional elements, and environmental enhancements that reinforced Craft Vision’s identity. Finishing and color tied everything together into a cohesive, cinematic brand experience.
Outcome
The final film became a central asset in Craft Vision’s brand rollout. It clearly communicated their ethos, leveled up their visual identity, and gave them a premium launch piece they could use across presentations, social channels, and investor conversations.
